Empowerment Leadership and Advocacy Co-Ed Program
Our Empowerment, Leadership and Advocacy Co-Ed Program services ages 13-19 and is dedicated to increasing the leadership skills of our participants. Through the investment of their time and effort, they will walk away a more informed and productive member of society, with an expanded ability to think critically and feel more confident to address their community problems and issues. Skills learned from our program will positively impact cross-cultural communication skills, an essential skillset in today's globally connected world. These tools and skills will serve them beyond high school or college.
Strong leadership skills create smart advocates. Advocacy through community service, a pillar part of our program, necessitates obtaining a worldview understanding. beyond their neighborhood. A part of our curriculum encompasses our participants moving beyond the confines of their neighborhood. This entails domestic & international travel for teens interested in leadership, advocacy, culture, community service, and adventure which will consist of virtual and physical travel. Because it is important that our teens to learn what it means to travel responsibility, the virtual travel part of our program takes place in the fall and spring and physical travel will typically occur during the summer.
Most of the travel excursions will last between 3-7 days.Virtual travel will entail challenging students to think critically about global issues by looking at a current world problem, role-playing as either an advocate or leader in an interactive experience. Students will act as ambassadors. They will immerse themselves in a problem, research all sides of the problem, propose a unique solution and work together to create a social media campaign to bring awareness to the selected problem.
The ELA Program is a three-year program. The first year consists of introducing youth to the concepts of empowerment, leadership, and advocacy, comminating in 3 day domestic trip. In the second year will youth will move to advanced concepts and will comminate in a 5-7 day international trip. In the third year, youth will return as volunteers and serve as senior youth mentors.
